AC Milan highly interested to sign Chelsea’s young defender, Fikayo Tomori on loan

Italian giant, AC Milan has entered the race to sign Chelsea’s young defender, Fikayo Tomori in the winter transfer period. Not only the Italian club but also several clubs from England are keen to sign the defender who impressed a lot in the previous season for Chelsea.

Tomori’s exit has been boosted as he has been largely kept on the bench for the majority of the season due to fierce competition in the backline between Andreas Christensen, Zouma and the introduction of the veteran Brazilian defender, Thiago Silva.

Tomori is below the pecking order with Frank Lampard favouring Zouma with Thiago Silva in the defence, and he is in search of more game time elsewhere.

Premier League clubs including Leeds United and Newcastle are willing to have him under a loan contract while AC Milan is proposing for a permanent long term loan for Tomori. The Italian club had their eyes on Mohamed Simakan of Ligue 1 club, Strasbourg but the club is rather bent on accepting the terms of RB Leipzig who have proposed a large sum for signing.

Lampard has also agreed to let him leave for the player’s benefit and has praised his talent and dedication after Tomori came on the pitch for the first time in this season in Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Morecambe.

“The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment, in that he could be going on loan to get games,” said Lampard as per Goal reports.

“But that will have to be the right decision for him and the club. So while I was looking at starting him today, I was also looking at that (the potential for a loan move), and we’ve got to make the right decisions for us, for the club and for him.

“His attitude has been fantastic in terms of working, training every day and how he is.”

The versatile young defender joined Chelsea from Rennes and broke into he first team last year with his performance. Since this season, he has been majorly on the bench and the right move for him will be to seek an exit. Moreover, the club is looking to trim the squad size as well.
