Chelsea manager Frank Lampard says that his team has a lot of work to do after the match against West Bromwich Albion. Chelsea’s sloppy defense and individual errors saw them trailing by 3 goals and that became a challenge for Chelsea to come back into the match.
Although the Blues bounced back to grab a 3-3 draw in the added time, Lampard was very frustrated with his team’s first-half performance.
Spanish left-back, Marcos Alonso had a disastrous night and gave Lampard a reason to not put him in the starting XI. He made two mistakes that made Chelsea concede two goals early in the game.
The arrival of Thiago Silva was meant to tighten up the backline after recent week’s howlers, but the Brazilian will surely want to forget his Chelsea debut match.
His Premier League debut was marked with an embarrassing error from him that gave West Brom a clear opportunity to score their second goal.
“You can do as many meetings as you want — if you’re going to make those mistakes, you’re going to give yourself a mountain to climb,” said Lampard being disaapointed.
“We created two or three great chances in the first half, I felt we would create more, the only other problem at 3-0 was West Brom were going to protect their lead more.”
“It is a big lesson for us. We will get a lot better. We’re still finding our way with new players and a lack of pre-season. Today is part of the process of getting better,” he added.
Chelsea moves to the sixth position of the Premier League table, having four points in three matches.
The Blues will have two crucial games ahead, one against Tottenham Hotspurs in Carabao Cup and another against Crystal Palace in the League.
Although cautioned with his own team, Lampard wants to see a major improvement in his players with time.
I expect to see an improvement in our performances,” Lampard said,
Although he admits that a lack of pre-season and interference of the international duties has hampered the players in terms of fitness. So he is patient and he knows that his own players are still not 100%. Moreover, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, and Pulisic are yet to play.
