Chelsea has made a number of summer signings, although only the German pair was fit enough to feature at the Amex Stadium.
It was a rusty start for Havertz but Werner, in particular, was lively on his debut Chelsea appearance. He won a penalty in the 21st minute which was converted by Jorginho.
Both teams found their feet in the opening 20 minutes after the strangest of pre-seasons in which these two sides met just over two weeks ago.
Werner looked in good shape and it was his pace that won Chelsea’s penalty. Steven Alzate’s poor pass landed to Jorginho, who poked the ball through for his new team-mate, who was tripped by the onrushing Ryan.
Confident penalty as always from Jorginho… https://t.co/XggnjkMuh5

Brighton should have scored next just after the penalty with Neal Maupay couldn’t quite get his header on target. Kepa produced a fantastic save by palming away a powerful strike going in the net.
Graham Potter’s side went close twice and dominated the opening minutes of the second half.
Brighton manager Graham Potter said, “From our perspective, we performed quite well in the game. There are lots of positives for us in terms of the overall game, but we’re disappointed to concede three goals.”
A stunning strike from Reece James put Chelsea ahead.

Jorginho set the 20-year-old up outside the area and he striked a thunderbolt into the back of the net which the keeper could do nothing to stop.
It was the Chelsea defender, Zouma who scored the third Chelsea goal from the corner of Reece James in the 66th minute.
Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard said, “I thought we were okay. I liked the work ethic and the discipline of the team.”
“That’s not the end of the story, I’m not getting excited about that on day one, but it had a bit of determination and resilience about it.”
The victory marks a successful start for Frank Lampard’s new-look side.
