Pat Nevin’s Analysis on Frank Lampard’s New Chelsea is Spot On

Considering everything that has happened at Chelsea in terms of the management team with new signings, Pat Nevin says that it is the most exciting season for Chelsea in recent years. Like the last campaign, fans knew that there is a clash between Manchester City & Liverpool, and rightly did so happen with a top-four finish by Chelsea. But right now it is all about narrowing the gaps for FC Chelsea.

Much has been made of the £200 million’ spent by the Blues this transfer window, but in reality that is a figure that should be considered over not just one transfer window but all the way from the winter transfer window. That’s what Nevin claimed.

There have been very limited opportunities to add players to the squad since Christian Pulisic was brought back to Chelsea. Also, he doesn’t allow us to forget that Chelsea acquired a lot of money for Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata transfers.

Both Werner and Kai Havertz could take a little while to settle in, though Nevin doubts it. But when they do the possibility of goals from both is extraordinary as per him. Considering the fact that last season he felt to build the next few years of the squad around the American attacker, Christian Pulisic. But Chelsea now has three of that potential and that is before he asks the fans to begin considering Hakim Ziyech and the quality he possesses. Young talented guys like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have also grown considerably and risen up the pecking order through their performances.

Pat Nevin is amazed to think that having let Pedro and Willian, a consistent starter for Brazil go, the Blues have done their business well to plug in the gaps. All the fans were worried about the gap being left behind as they left Stamford bridge. They were talented players for them. Nevin thinks that it does speak volumes for the recruitment policy this summer.

It is true whatever Pat believes. The possibilities for the Chelsea offensive line are endless. So, how Frank Lampard fits all these players into the team will be a massive thing to look out for. Of course, he won’t be able to give equal opportunities for all the players. He will however have huge options on the bench to change things if his plan A in any given match is not functioning.

Lampard has been quick in making changes whenever he has had to. More importantly, he has an incredible strike rate when it comes to his substitutions having a positive effect.

Agreeing with Pat Nevin’s opinion, the innate ability to see what is needed as the game progresses will look even better this time around because of the extra dynamic quality at the coach’s disposal.

‘I think we look like we have a team ready to have a decent go at starting to close in on them.’ said Pat Nevin.

Chelsea is on the brink of the season now and the opening games have even fallen pretty well for them. The Blues wouldn’t want to play heavy-weights like Liverpool or Man City first. So Brighton is a very good opener with a chance of acquiring the three points.

The new signings should have a bit more understanding of each other’s games by the time the Blues face down the Reds. There is a proper opportunity to adapt to the new squad having West Brom, Palace and Southampton as the next league games.

It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if Lampard’s era starts one of the most exciting periods in the club’s history.
