Chelsea is in a shopping mood this summer. A huge revolution is taking place at Chelsea Football Club.
Five consecutive signings in the last week by Chelsea has shown that the Blues want to aim for big this season. An exceptional spending spree is getting better day by day with the club President Roman Abramovich’s funding.
The Club was under a transfer ban last year which prevented them to improve their squad.
How this Transfer Season Massively Changed Chelsea?
After giving more firepower to the Chelsea attacking line with the addition of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and probably Kai Havertz, the manager is backed to improve the defense.
The problems plowing the defensive department have been well resolved by buying experienced PSG captain, Thiago Silva as a quick fix.
The old defender has played exceptionally well and led PSG to the UCL final last year. Leicester City’s left-back, Ben Chilwell has been recruited too along with Malang Sarr.
Chelsea’s Squad Overhaul
Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard has assessed the weak links in the squad and has done some shrewd business in terms of signing.
He has developed the core team consisting of young talents. He also has experienced players at his service if things go wrong.
Chelsea always lacked a hungry striker and their creative midfielder, Willian left the team. The Blues immediately reacted by signing Timo Werner and brought in Hakim Ziyech to fill Willian’s position.
The headache Lampard had in defense is solved with Thiago Silva’s arrival, who has leadership qualities and played top football throughout the last season.
Healthy Competition
The addition of new players in midfield has certainly left the Blues’ coach, Frank Lampard with a midfield conundrum that he needs to solve.
Chelsea was too inconsistent last season having spells of good results, but failing miserably in crucial times due to individual errors.
They leaked goals that should have been avoided in plenty of situations but still managed to finish in the top four. But things have changed enormously after the transfer ban was lifted off.
The availability of the front three in Pulisic(LWF), Werner (CF), and Ziyech (RWF) is terrific along with Hudson Odoi in the bench. Signing 3 new starters in a team can certainly be a high-risk high reward move from Roman Abramovich.
The competition for the first team in the midfield can be a good sign for Chelsea.
Havertz/Mason Mount(AMF), N Golo Kante, or Jorginho(CDM) while B.Grimour/ Kovacic(CM).
Chelsea can well manage a balanced 4–2–3–1 formation with the availability of so many dynamic players now. Lampard can also play with this formation in too many ways by changing it in 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 attacking or even 4-2-3-1.
This could certainly provide a great attacking flair to the team without neglecting the defense.
Personal Opinion on the new Chelsea?
But it is sure that now the President has opened his wallet, the pressure will be on Lampard if each season follows with a trophy drought. With such a great squad, fans will be expecting Lampard to deliver too in domestic as well as in Europe.
He might be one of the legends of Chelsea but if he fails to deliver in the coming seasons, he will be axed too like all other Chelsea managers.
