Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard has stated that no bid has been made by the Premier League side for German starlet Kai Havertz. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has emerged as the primary transfer target for the Blues in recent weeks.
Lampard voiced his admiration for Havertz, stating that the youngster was a very talented player. However, the Blues coach emphasized on the point that his side have not submitted any bid for the German international. Moreover, Lampard refused to give out any further details about a possible move for the player in the summer.
The 21-year old Havertz is one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga. His performances for the Leverkusen side have been noticed by most of the top European sides. The attacking midfielder has scored 12 times this season for his side and has assisted six goals for his teammates.
Besides Chelsea FC, Real Madrid are also interested in signing Havertz in the upcoming transfer window. Zinedine Zidane considers him to be an ideal successor to the ageing Luca Modric as the Spanish side’s creative influence on the pitch. Havertz is himself eager on securing a move to Spain to play for the Los Blancos under Zidane’s management.
Chelsea FC were earlier being priced out of a deal for Havertz. However, with attackers Pedro and Willian set to depart at the end of the current Premier League season, signing Havertz has become a necessity for Lampard’s side. Moreover, the sale of Marco Pasalic to Atalanta has raised some more funds to be used by the Blues in the summer.
It is believed that Chelsea FC will submit an offer worth £79.6 million for Havertz to Leverkusen. Furthermore, the Blues will offer a five-year deal to the 21-year old which would enable him to earn £8.1 million per year.
If Havertz signs for Chelsea FC, he would link up with his fellow German international Timo Werner, who is set to join the Blues from RB Leipzig.
