The Blues star Mateo Kovacic has taken a joking dig at Liverpool stating that they won’t win the Premier League because of Croatian teammate Dejan Lovren.
It’s getting quite serious at the top of the Premier League with three teams quite realistically having chances to win the title in the month of May. Leaders are current champions of England Manchester City are on course to better their record and showed their class in the Manchester derby as they brushed aside Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in a comfortable 3-1 victory this weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is in close competition as they sit on 2nd place and just two points behind City with 30 points from 12 games. The Reds are yet to hit their fluent best which makes their future slightly more interesting in hindsight. Liverpool’s front three are yet to start firing with regular fluidity while Chelsea is playing some wonderful football under manager Maurizio Sarri as the Blues are in 3rd place two points behind the Merseyside outfit.
Sarri has got Chelsea playing to his philosophy and these three teams are yet to be beaten in the Premier League so far. Last season, it was quite a boring title finish as Manchester City stormed their way to the Premier League title breaking plenty of records on the way.
But according to Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, only Chelsea and Manchester City are competing for the Premier League title this season and the 24-year-old star has ruled out Liverpool because of one player.
While speaking at a charity fundraiser in Croatia, Kovacic said that his national teammate Dejan Lovren will be the reason why Liverpool won’t win the Premier League title, “Liverpool will not be English champion. Why? Well because they have Dejan Lovren.”
Although Kovacic may be joking around with the Croatian central defender, Lovren may not see the funny side of things at the moment as the duo return to their homeland for the international friendlies.
