Chelsea interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard

Chelsea said to be interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard following a setback in their pursuit of first-choice target Matthijs de Ligt.

The Juventus centre-back has been a top name on the shopping list for the Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel in this summer’s transfer window but moving in for De Ligt’s signature appears to be a tedious task for Tuchel’s side.

Juventus are looking for a big-money payout amid speculation doing the rounds that it is Bayern Munich who have stolen the march and emerged the frontrunners with a move to Germany now De Ligt’s preferred destination.

According to Sky Germany, Chelsea are keeping close tabs on Bayern’s first-team regular Pavard with the Bundesliga holders willing to part ways with the 2018 World Cup-winning France international this summer.

Pavard has two more years left on his current terms with Bayern but De Ligt’s arrival on the scene is likely to play spoilsport to the former’s eagerness to turn out in the centre-back role.
