Cesar Azpilicueta has remained coy over the ongoing speculation that surrounds his future at Stamford Bridge beyond this coming summer.
The Blues skipper, who is out of contract in the English capital at the end of the season, is the top name on the shopping list for FC Barcelona and the club’s new boss Xavi.
However, there is talk gaining ground that the Stamford Bridge giants could be in line to activate a clause to extend the deal for one more year with Thomas Tuchel keen to prevent a defensive exodus heading into the new campaign.
Both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are nearing their exits from the Chelsea fold with the latter on the verge of completing a free transfer to Camp Nou after rebuffing an attempt to renew terms at the Bridge.
Azpilicueta, meanwhile, refused to talk about his future in a recent press conference ( via a report from Goal) with the Spaniard adding that the Chelsea players were focused on obtaining the results despite the ownership saga that continues to unfold.
“This is not the time or place to talk about the future.
“If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the pandemic and with Chelsea’s current situation it’s that we have to live the day to day, live the moment. Now is the time to focus on the selection.
“At Chelsea we are living in a time of great uncertainty, but the players and the coaching staff can only do one thing, which is to prepare as best as possible for the matches.
“In fact, after the sale of the club was announced, we achieved good results. The rest is not in our hands.”
