Glen Johnson says Chelsea do not need to go after Juventus star Federico Chiesa who is rumoured to be a top target for Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge since this summer’s window.
The Italy international winger has been a hit for both club and country over the past year and has been linked with a move to England’s top flight with Chelsea and Liverpool keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.
Thomas Tuchel is understood to be keen on bringing in reinforcements for his already star-studded forward lineup as speculation remains rife over the long-term future of Timo Werner in the Chelsea shirt.
Chiesa has caught the eye of the Chelsea manager on the back of his fine run of form for Juventus who lost talisman Cristiano Ronaldo this summer to Manchester United.
Former Liverpool and Chelsea full-back Johnson, however, seems unconvinced while speaking to BettingOdds that the Blues need to prioritise a move for the Serie A star forward with attacking options aplenty at Tuchel’s disposal within his camp.
“I’m a fan. I didn’t know too much about him before the Euros but he’s a quick winger, hard-working and looks like he’s got the attributes to suit the Premier League,”
“Whether Chelsea is the right fit, I’m not sure. I don’t think they need him. If they could get him, they would, but I don’t think they need to.
“But I believe he’s the sort of player that, when he needs to, would perform in a way that would suit the Premier League.”
