Chelsea were handed an injury scare as Antonio Rudiger was absent for training with the Germany squad during the ongoing international break, according to reports from local news publication BILD.
Rudiger has been one of the most influential performers for Thomas Tuchel’s Blues who sit top of the league standings with a one-point cushion over second played Liverpool prior to heading into the break.
The 28-year-old central defender, whose future at Stamford Bridge beyond the next summer’s transfer windows continues to attract speculation, sat out Germany’s training session with a back injury in what could prove to be a setback for Chelsea.
Tuchel’s men go up against the Premier League’s in-form new boys Brentford over the upcoming weekend and Rudiger’s absence could hit Chelsea dearly in the defensive department which has been solid to say the least since the start of the 2021-22 campaign.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain continue to keep tabs on Rudiger’s transfer situation despite Chelsea’s repeated efforts to die down their star defender to a long-term extension with a big pay rise.
