The Blues have been quiet players in the transfer market so far this summer despite the Champions of Europe being linked with a host of star names across the continent’s biggest leagues.
With headlines dominating the news that Thomas Tuchel has set his sights on a move for Borussia Dortmund talisman Erling Haaland, Chelsea’s urgency of adding to their other areas on the pitch had been ignored by the press.
In recent weeks, however, there has been the talk of Tuchel dipping into the transfer market to bring in a fresh face for the Chelsea midfield which perhaps looks their weakest link heading into the start of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign which kicks off in mid-August.
The new league season less than four weeks away and with the expectations of the Premier League living up to its usual drama which is evident in the newly promoted sides turning out formidable performances against proven heavyweights. You might see it a lot while betting on Premier League Football matches.
Chelsea head into the upcoming campaign on the back of their Champions League-winning run in the backend of May which put forth the argument that the west Londoners were now a truly formidable force under the charge of Thomas Tuchel who has appointed to the top job at Stamford Bridge by the club’s owner Roman Abramovich only in January this year.
What is being asked of the Chelsea boss this summer by the fanbase are new signings with the general consensus that despite being long linked with a move for Haaland to improve their fortunes up top on the pitch, the Blues lacked depth in their midfield area as well.
The departure of the highly-promising midfield talent in Billy Gilmour for the Premier League promotional candidates Norwich City and the imminent exits of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tiémoué Bakayoko means that Tuchel is set to lose out on more names to field in the centre of the park.

Only N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho remain the established first-team regulars at Tuchel’s disposal ahead of the new season but with speculation rife over the latter’s future at the Bridge amid his agent’s recent round of remarks, Chelsea’s midfield list sure does need some injunction of fresh blood.

West Ham United’s Declan Rice is understood to be a priority target for Chelsea with the England international defensive midfielder scouted by both Tuchel and his immediate predecessor as the Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
But The Hammers remain firm over their pricing demands despite Chelsea’s hopes that including a West Ham top target in Tammy Abraham as a part of the deal for Rice could coax David Moyes into parting ways with perhaps the most influential man on his teamsheet in the run-up to the new season.
Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga is another name that has courted attention from Chelsea who left it quite late to join their arch-rivals Manchester United in the race to land the signature of the 18-year-old midfield prodigy who has impressed with his displays in Ligue 1 football.
Miralem Pjanic, FC Barcelona’s flop signing of last summer’s window, is backed to call it quits at Camp Nou this time around and the Blues have been in the running for the Bosnian’s signature a summer after failing to land him from Juventus.
Whether Chelsea add a new midfield player to their ranks before a move for Haaland materialises remains to be seen in what remains of the transfer window but there is no doubt that Thomas Tuchel’s Champions League winners will be a much more colossal outfit should their options in the centre of the park be subject to an upgrade.
