Top 5 highest-paid players of Chelsea in the 2020-21 campaign

Chelsea spent a hefty amount in the summer transfer to bring in talented players in an attempt to overhaul the squad. This saw their budget going near to around £250 million. After finishing fourth in the 2019-20 Premier League under new boss Frank Lampard, Chelsea is now pushing hard for a Premier League title challenge in the current campaign.

Chelsea spent near to £250m in the summer transfer window and so it is obvious that the wage of the players has increased subsequently too.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at the weekly wages of Chelsea’s top five highest earners of this 2020-21 campaign.

#5 Cesar Azpilicueta – £145,000 per week

Chelsea’s current captain, Cesar Azpilicueta is struggling to get game time unlike before and it seems like he will only be used as a back-up for the side backs. Youngster Reece James appears to have taken his spot as the club’s first-choice right-back, but that does not mean Azpilicueta’s importance to the Chelsea clause will go down.

The Spaniard is one of Frank Lampard’s most experienced and trusted lieutenants. He’ll certainly be called up at the latter stage in order to give the first team players some rest. He just has two years left on his current £145k-per-week contract and he should stay as he is a valuable back-up asset for Chelsea.

#4 Kepa Arrizabalaga – £150,000 per week

After making a number of costly errors in the 2019-20 campaign, Chelsea has now replaced Kepa Arrizabalaga as their first-choice goalkeeper. He has a bond signed with a huge sum of £150k per week until the year 2025 and it appears that the Blues will be stuck with the error-prone keeper for quite a long time.

It seems that Edouard Mendy has cemented his place with immediate results between the sticks and it will be very tough for the Spaniard to retain his position. But it also seems unlikely that a club will want to break their banks and land him in this pandemic situation with such a huge transfer fee.

#3 Christian Pulisic – £158,654 per week

Chelsea’s No.10 man, Christian Pulisic has delivered quite an individual performance in his debut campaign last season. Not only did he netted 10 goals and made five assists, but he showed the world that he is able to replace Chelsea’s former star, Eden Hazard. But injuries have troubled the teenager in this campaign and restricted him to show what he posses.

This is the only thing that appears to be holding the talent he wants to show to the world. He is struggling with injuries, as he only played just 25 Premier League games in the previous season and has only made three appearances so far now. However, when he’s fit, he more than justifies his hefty £158k-per-week contract and he is no doubt the best player of Chelsea.

#2 Timo Werner – £170,000 per week

Timo Werner is the second-highest earner with a £170k per week wage. But he’s already beginning to justify his hefty fee and wage by proving to be a lethal goal scorer for Chelsea. He is until now the highest scorer for the Blues.

Werner has netted seven times and assisted twice in his 11 games for the Blues. He is the focal point of Chelsea and the coach has even handed the penalty responsibilities to him. Capable of playing as a center-forward and also from a wide position, the German international is still just 24 years old and has a bright future ahead in the club.

Werner will be hoping to show the kind of form he had in the German League for Chelsea. His form will be crucial for making Chelsea a genuine favorite to win the title.

#1 Ben Chilwell – £190,000 per week

Chelsea’s left-back, Ben Chilwell is Chelsea’s highest earner to everyone’s surprise with a massive £190k per week. Signed from Leicester for around £50m in the recent transfer window, with a contract like that, it’s easy to see how highly rated he is by Blues boss Frank Lampard.

His career in Chelsea has started brilliantly as he has been proved to be a constant threat down the left-hand flank. Since his return from injury, his work ethic is unparalleled while none crosses the ball as brilliantly as him. Chilwell has also netted two goals and two assists while also helping to shore up his side’s defence. If he continues at his current rate, then he’ll no doubt be worth every penny.
