Chelsea’s last two games have seen a vast improvement in the defence as they kept two back-to-back clean sheets for the first time of the season. The clean sheets came in the UEFA Champions League match against Sevilla and the Premier League match against Manchester United– two top teams of Europe.
The French defender feels that with more time, there will be more rigidity in the backline and praises the way they have shut down opponents. He feels that the new faces in the squad have started to settle in this big club and in the new league as well.
They are slowly getting accustomed to the managerial ways of coach Frank Lampard and think it is a matter of time before Chelsea will start their unbeaten run in all competitions.
‘Everyone’s been training hard. We played these two great opponents, but defensively we did a great job. I think in the last two games we’ve been doing great. I think the communication’s been better too,’ he said in the Official Chelsea website.
‘Also I think just the lads made a really big effort to keep the clean sheet and everyone, we’re all going the same way and we know each other better now.
There’s a lot of new players that came in, and with the players that were here last season, the mix has to come quicker. We don’t have time to prepare a lot, we have a short time in training because there are many games coming, but we will get there soon hopefully and we just need to enjoy ourselves.
‘We’ve got quality everywhere. Of course Thiago Silva has been doing good since he came, but also before he wasn’t here and we’d been doing good too. There’s nothing to prove, we just came here to win the game as a team, so there’s nothing to prove for us.’
The two previous clean sheets came when Zouma got his partnership with the new summer signing defender, Thiago Silva and they have been pretty good together.
Although Thiago Silva will miss the Champions League match against an unknown side, Krosnova in Russia, Zouma assures the fans that the team has nothing to prove in the veteran defender’s absence. He lauds the improvement in the defence due to the whole effort of the team.
