Arsenal have gained the pole position to secure the services of Chelsea FC ace Willian this summer. The Brazilian winger is widely expected to leave the Blues following the expiry of his contract at the West London outfit. Willian’s departure will come amid the Brazilian’s efforts to negotiate a new contract with Chelsea FC proving futile.
The 31-year old is reportedly adamant about securing a three-year contract extension from the Blues’ management. However, the club are not willing to heed to Willian’s demands, with the Blues set to offer a two-year deal at most to the winger.
And now with a breakdown in contract talks, other clubs are eyeing a move for the 31-year old on a free transfer. Rumors suggest that the possibility of Willian signing for fellow London based side Arsenal is quite high. The Brazilian has made clear his intention of staying in London next season as well.
The Gunners are keen to add another attacking option to their squad, and Willian’s signing could prove to be a great addition to Arsenal’s first-team squad. The 31-year old has tons of experience of playing at the highest level and has a glorious past in the Chelsea FC shirt. The Brazilian international has won three Premier League titles during his seven-year stay at Stamford Bridge.
Kia Joorabchian, Willian’s agent, has been reported to have great ties with Arsenal’s top management. The Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will be hoping to take advantage of the same to speed up Willian’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium.
Besides Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs also have been reported to have expressed interest in signing the Blues attacker. Spurs’ boss Jose Mourinho is confident of landing Willian’s signature due to his great relationship with his former Chelsea FC star. However, Mourinho’s side is loaded with attacking options, and signing Willian would not probably be in their best interests.
Liverpool FC too have been linked with making a move for the 31-year old Willian. With Xherdan Shaqiri’s future at Anfield looking doubtful, Jurgen Klopp could choose to sign the Chelsea FC winger as a squad-rotation option.
