Will Thomas Tuchel be able to deliver European glory at Stamford Bridge?

Taking upon the coveted job of the Chelsea gaffer brings about much pressure on the shoulders of any big-name coach in world football, mainly due to the fact that the Blues owner Roman Abramovich is notorious for handing the sack should the desired results not be obtained at the Bridge.

When Chelsea hero Frank Lampard was shown the door in the wake of a disastrous spell of results, in came Thomas Tuchel, a surprise announcement by Abramovich but nevertheless much welcomed by the Blues fanbase.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss is now expected to steer the west Londoners back to glory on all fronts and it would be fair to say that Tuchel has hit the ground running just a couple of months into his appointment.

Defeat on Saturday against West Brom was a real shocker for the new Blues boss with the defeat marking the end of a major turnaround at the Bridge which had brought about a 14-game-long unbeaten run for Tuchel.

Chelsea’s next outing would come against surprise entrants into the last-eight of the UEFA Champions League FC Porto who have exceeded expectations with their progress into the knockout rounds of Europe’s elite club competition.

Despite being matched up against a side that looks heavy underdogs on paper, Tuchel would be sounding out cautiousness at the unprecedented happenings in European football particularly when one’s team heads into a contest tipped as the favourites.

Many of the Chelsea supporters, meanwhile, aptly backed by free bets, are harbouring quite vivid hopes of seeing their side clinch the prestigious trophy at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in İstanbul come 29 May.

Tuchel’s hiring was followed up by a brilliant run of form across all competitions which has given the Chelsea fanbase hopes aplenty of witnessing a revolution headed by their new coach who has brought about a major revival amongst those present at the club.

The likes of Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso have reclaimed first-team regular credentials after being handed the axe by then Chelsea boss Frank Lampard while Jorginho and Kai Havertz have hit top form again following the pairing coming much under the scanner over the past year.

The gaffer still needs to get the very best of his first-choice No.9 Timo Werner as the German international’s barren run of attacking displays show no signs of ending for the best nearly a summer into his big-money move to west London.

Experience and tactical genius are well at Tuchel’s disposal in the capacity of a football coach but what remains to be seen is whether the German translates those into bringing Champions League glory back to Stamford Bridge nine years after the masterclass finale at the Allianz Arena which went the Blues’ way.
