Every manager wants some players he can absolutely trust. Their performances set the standards at the respective clubs. Their presence is enough to lift the morale of their compatriots as they help in lifting the confidence of a player having an off day by stepping up when the time comes.
Although these players are very hard to find. Every coach is always in search of these undroppable players as they are very hard to find. During Frank Lampard’s days in Chelsea, he was a leader on the pitch and certainly an undroppable player for the club. The Blues had many big players in their team like Didier Drogba, Ballack, John Terry, Petr Cech, Ivanovic, etc. and some of them were even the captains for their respective national teams too.
They become undroppable for the manager as these players are the spine of the club. Andre Villas-Boas once tried to change this in Chelsea and he severely failed and obviously, he was sacked just in the middle of the season. These players were later restored by Roberto Di Matteo and eventually, they cruised the club to the Champions League victory.
Chelsea’s legend, Frank Lampard is back at the club this time, but not as a player but as a manager and he knows he needs to find his own undroppable of the team. With the backing of Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, the club has spent near to $250 million money in the summer transfer window and brought in seven new faces to the club.
Currently and undoubtedly, N’Golo Kante is the undroppable player of the squad and definitely a world-class midfielder. The Frenchman has won the World cup and is one of the best defensive midfielders in the footballing world. Dropping him will be a major risk as he gives a balance to the attacking unit of Lampard and forms a protective shield before the defence.
The same can be said about Kante’s teammate, Kurt Zouma who has been a reliable defender beside say Christensen or Rudiger, or Thiago Silva. He has been excellent this season and at one point he was even the top scorer for his own team.
The French international was highly rated by the current Tottenham coach, Jose Mourinho. His development was hindered by a long term injury and since this season, has been a key figure in Chelsea’s backline. Not every match the veteran 36 years old Thiago Silva can feature so it is Zouma who is totally undroppable from the first team.
While in between the posts, Edouard Mendy has managed to make Chelsea fans forget their No.1 keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga. With the Spaniard, Chelsea’s defense often looked vulnerable but Mendy’s arrival has made the defense look more secure. He has just conceded a single goal in all competitions until now for Chelsea and people have made the nervous Chelsea defense calm and solid. He has made a record of keeping clean sheet since Petr Cech did it back 15-16 years ago.
In attack, the german Timo Werner ha shit the ground running. The former RB Leipzig player was ruthless up front for Chelsea in the past few weeks and has even scored a stunning goal against Spain for his national team. It was only a matter of time that Werner before the fans was sure of his capabilities. He will prove to be a goal machine for Lampard and the team relies on him too for goals.
The left-back, Ben Chilwell has been in fine form for the Blues since his debut. His imminent arrival has made sure that he is the next Ashley Cole of Chelsea. He is a running machine and also an attacking threat in the left flank. He produces wonderful yet dangerous crosses and no player is more capable to fit in the left-back position for Chelsea at the moment.
Chilwell’s fellow compatriot, Hakim Ziyech has made a lot of noise and fans are going gaga over his versatility in the field. he is the little magician of Chelsea and his playmaking ability is second to none. He is the leader of the attacking department as he is scoring and making assists as well.
The last one is undeniably Mason Mount. He is the favourite player(as the fans say) of coach Frank Lampard and even the coach was criticized for choosing him over other deserving players every week. The likes of Mateo Kovacic, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson Odoi are the ones suffering as they get few minutes with Mount in the squad. Although he is talented, Lampard wants to use him at the cost of more deserving players at his disposal.
