Where does Chelsea’s hunt for a new striker lead them this summer?

Chelsea are yet to make a major splash in this summer’s transfer window which is their first under Thomas Tuchel who since his hiring to the Stamford Bridge top job earlier this year has brought about a major turnaround at the club.

The German led the Blues to much-coveted Champions League glory and a narrow top-four finish in the Premier League and had some of the fringe players under Frank Lampard return to their first-team regular status to immediate success.

However, the onset of the summer transfer window had meant that the Chelsea fanbase were expecting their new coach to bring in big-name arrivals at the Bridge and renew Chelsea’s credentials for Premier League glory this upcoming season.

With heavy backing on the financial front from the owner Roman Abromovich, Tuchel had his priority targets set in West Ham United midfield maestro Declan Rice and more importantly on the Chelsea manager’s mind was to bring in a proven goal-getter for solving his side’s mixed run of fortunes in the final third of the pitch.

Two names believed to be high on Tuchel’s shopping list for this summer were Borussia Dortmund talisman Erling Haaland and an ex-Chelsea player who now stars in the Serie A for Inter Milan in Romelu Lukaku, both players who brought up incredible numbers in front of the goal across the previous campaign.

But both star strikers are highly unlikely to sport the Chelsea colours next season with Dortmund and Inter Milan firm on retaining Haaland and Lukaku respectively beyond this summer’s transfer window even as Abramovich prepares to offer north of £100 million to land either of the two players considered key to Chelsea’s ambitions of a Premier League crown next season.

World Cup-winning Frenchman Olivier Giroud has already bid his goodbyes at Stamford Bridge by securing a move to AC Milan and another Chelsea outcast in Tammy Abraham remains posied to head out the exit door with Arsenal and West Ham United keeping close tabs on the England international who has fallen out of favour with his new boss Tuchel.

With outgoings from the Chelsea ranks imminent before the transfer window slams shut and with less firepower now in his attacking department heading into the open of the 21-22 campaign, Tuchel has limited time on his hands to induct fresh blood at the Bridge as the Chelsea fans hope to see less of last summer’s marquee signing Timo Werner lead the line for the Blues.

Southampton’s contract rebel Danny Ings and Lukaku’s Inter Milan strike partner Lautaro Martinez are rumoured to be lined up as alternative names Tuchel could turn to in such times of distress for the Chelsea boss who with sizable financial backing from the club’s owners has been unable to make an impact in the transfer window.
