What is the future of Olivier Giroud at the club?

Much of the excitement in Chelsea so far in this new campaign has revolved around the new faces that have joined the Blues in a major summer overhaul by the club and it’s indeed amazing to see a new XI beginning to take shape in full gear.

Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard is building a side that is becoming more compact and solid defensively with some big signings at the defensive department. In the upfront, they have some explosive pace and serious goal threats that are trying to build combinations and telepathy together.

But spare a thought for some of the players that helped Chelsea to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season. These players have gone down the pecking order due to the arrival of the new-comers in the team and it is none other than Olivier Giroud whose lethal form helped the club and now he is being affected the most.

The 34-year-old is down the pecking order behind the likes of Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham in the battle for the starting forward position, which is why he’s seeing such little action on the pitch and is mainly watching on from the bench.

But the Frenchman couldn’t have done much more in a Chelsea shirt. He has scored 29 goals in 91 games since his move to Stamford Bridge for £18million back in January 2018 and he’s been the perfect professional.

Giroud offers the team something different with his physical presence in the final third and his brilliant link-up play, but he has not fit into the quick style that Lampard is trying to create and it’s clear that Werner is the individual that will get priority this season.

Inter had to struggle in the absence of their talisman, Romelu Lukaku in crucial matches like the UCL match against Real Madrid and Parma in the last week. They are in dire need of a target man beside Lautaro Martinez without their talisman for their matches with Parma and Real Madrid in the last week. The absence of a proper frontman was hugely revealed and adding Olivier Giroud wouldn’t be a bad decision as he has shown what he still can do at the end of the last season with tremendous displays.

Inter Milan’s Antonio Conte is highly interested in the Frenchman and could propose an offer to Chelsea to move him to Italy in this coming winter transfer period as per the rumours of numerous news outlets. Giroud has been linked several times with the Italian clubs- the latest being Juventus this summer but eventually, Lampard wanted to keep him seeing his tremendous form towards the end of the previous season. The experienced striker will have just six months remaining on his contract if he moves in the coming January month and would have been available at a cheap price too.

Several Chelsea fans on social media have expressed their desire to see Giroud getting regular minutes in the Premier League as he would be the freshest player among the lot.

Giroud who is now 34 years of age has only appeared in just four games so far this season as he only featured in the defeat against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. The left-footed striker has had to be extremely patient waiting for his opportunity, with the duo Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham preferred right now.

He was used as a substitute in the recent victory against Burnley and had a goal disallowed for offside, but there is no doubt he’s still a top talent and he’s likely to be starring for France in the upcoming international break.

The left-footed striker has proven on the international stage with France he’s still a top-class talent and he scored eight goals in the final 12 league games of last season for Chelsea, but unfortunately for him, the Blues are now moving in a different direction.
