Chelsea FC great Ashley Cole believes that the experience of new signings Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech will pay off for the Blues in the coming season. The attacking duo arrived earlier this summer at Stamford Bridge for a combined fee of more than £90 million.
Both players will be a massive threat for opposition sides when fielded upfront by Frank Lampard, according to Cole. The ex-England international has tipped Werner and Ziyech to thrive in the Chelsea FC shirt and influence the team as a whole with their leadership trait on the pitch.
‘Although the new players that have come in are young, they’ve got experience of playing Champions League, they were stars of their team.’
‘They can give that leadership off the pitch and on it as well because we had a lot of leaders when I was a player here.’
‘They led by example not just by talking, but with their feet, which I feel is more important.’
Werner was a very important figure for his former side RB Leipzig with the German international leading the Bundesliga side with his terrific run of performances on the pitch. Moreover, despite being only 24 years of age, the forward has shown leader-like characteristics early on in his career.
The German’s new teammate at the west London club, Hakim Ziyech too arrives at Chelsea FC with tons of Champions League level experience. The Moroccan international was one of the senior-most figures in the youthful Ajax squad, despite being 27 years old himself.
