Thomas Tuchel received a major boost on his side’s injury front as star defender Thiago Silva reported back to training ahead of the Blues making the trip to Merseyside on Thursday to square up against Liverpool.
The former Paris Saint-Germain man Silva had been sidelined for Chelsea’s last six outings after injuring his thigh during Tuchel’s men recording a win over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Silva’s return, according to reports from the Express, presents his coach Tuchel with an additional option to field at the heart of the Blues backline when going up against Jurgen Klopp’s under-fire outfit at Anfield in the midweek fixture list.
The 36-year-old has been an influential part of the Chelsea setup since signing for them in the last summer transfer window and his recent absence due to injury meant that Tuchel had to issue a recall to the Dane Andreas Christensen.
Christensen had been a solid performer at the back when the Blues forced a stalemate out of their latest outing in top-flight football against Manchester United and Silva’s return is expected not to force the young defender out of the first-team plans at Stamford Bridge.
