Frank Lampard’s Chelsea earned a 2-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this weekend and theses are how the Blues fared:
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6
The Spaniard had just one shot to save all afternoon as Chelsea defied pre-match expectations by utterly nullifying the threat from the hosts.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 7
Deployed as a wing-back and adapted well to his new role with the sort of diligent and tenacious display that has now become his trademark and forte.
Antonio Rudiger – 7
Completely justified his inclusion as Chelsea’s new-look defensive shape completely overwhelmed Tottenham’s attackers. The German also kept his cool amid alleged racist abuse from the Spurs fans.
Kurt Zouma – 7
The Frenchman was given the central berth among Chelsea’s three defenders and barely put a foot wrong. He had a sudden moment of panic when he brought down Alli millimeters outside the penalty box.
Fikayo Tomori – 8
At just 22 years of age, the Englishman is proving his worth in gold for Lampard. On the left-hand side of Chelsea’s defensive trio, he barely made any errors.
Marcos Alonso – 7
The Spaniard deserves his due for chasing down the lost cause that ultimately resulted in Chelsea’s penalty kick being awarded by VAR. He had a relatively ok afternoon and dealt with most things quite well.
N’Golo Kante – 8
Adapted well to his new position in the center of the park and maintained a high level of energy throughout the game keeping the visitors ticking.
Mateo Kovacic – 7
The Croatian midfielder delivered some exquisite through-balls as Chelsea dominated from start. Was taken off in the second half as Chelsea took more control of the game.
Mason Mount – 9
The English superstar pulled the strings for Chelsea and prompted attack after attack with deft passing and clever running which Spurs were unable to cope with.
Willian – 9
The Brazilian was simply outstanding and oozed class and confidence from the moment he waltzed into Spurs’ penalty area and planted his effort into the corner of their net. Cool and calm from the penalty spot to add for his second goal, some of his passing in the sensational.
Tammy Abraham – 8
Despite not offering much of a goal threat, the Chelsea hitman’s mobility and sharp running played an imperative role in proceedings as he kept the Spurs defense fully stretched and left plenty of space in which Mount and Willian could wreak havoc.
