Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are looking set to battle it out for the signature of RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window.
Gvardiol has courted serious interest from Chelsea in the past and had come close to sealing a move to Stamford Bridge last summer before Chelsea pulled the plug on talks due to concern on the pricing front.
According to a report from the Italian publication Calciomercato, the Blues are expected to revive their interest in the Bundesliga talent Gvardiol ahead of this summer but Graham Potter’s side would be joined in the chase by rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are in the market for a new defensive signing and have identified the highly rated Gvardiol, who enjoyed a terrific campaign at the World Cup last year, as a name on their shopping list that could play spoilsport to Chelsea’s transfer plans.
Chelsea brought in Benoît Badiashile in the recent January window besides snapping up Kalidou Kouliably and Wesley Fofana last summer though it appears that Todd Beohly remains keen on adding to his backline.
