Tottenham Spurs are confident of beating Chelsea to Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro’s signature with the full-back emerging as an in-demand name in the market this month.
Sporting have remained firm on their stance that the €45 million release clause for the defender is paid in full but Spurs are hopeful of reaching on an agreement with the Portuguese club for forking out less than that up front .
According to a report from The Times ( via The Evening Standard), it is claimed that the North London giants are looking set to close in on signing the 23-year-old Porro who has courted interest from Chelsea in the recent past.
With Chelsea’s nailed-on starter in the right wing back role, Reece James, injured for the majority of the season, Graham Potter’s side were tipped to dip into the market for a new signing to provide cover in that role.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have been on a spending spree in the mid-season transfer window with six incoming so far in January coming through the doors for an amount in excess of £150 million.
