Former Blues forward Tony Cascarino has urged Chelsea to avoid moving in for Cristiano Ronaldo who has been linked with a switch to west London.
Ronaldo has fallen out of favour in the Manchester United camp under the new boss Eric ten Hag and it is understood that the latter has given the green light to the player for finding a new club.
Chelsea, who were after the Portuguese superstar last summer only for the then boss Thomas Tuchel to block an approach to sign Ronaldo, are credited with a strong interest once again in the 37-year-old attacker.
The Blues’ co-owner Todd Boehly’s latest meeting with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes caused serious talk of the Stamford Bridge heavyweights positioning themselves as the frontrunners for the ex-Real Madrid and Juventus talisman.
Not in favour of his old club’s pursuit of the Manchester United rebel is Cascarino, who while speaking to talkSPORT ( via The Mirror), has said that Chelsea require someone pacier in the final third of the pitch than the ageing Ronaldo.
“Not really. It’s an interesting one because I don’t think United will be prepared to let Ronaldo go.
“It could cost them Champions League football if they didn’t make the top-four and Ronaldo went to Chelsea. From that point of view it would be a difficult one to understand.
“Also, Chelsea need legs in the centre forward position, they need someone who’s a real, determined runner, who gets into positions and is quick. I would be amazed if that happened, if Ronaldo ended up at Stamford Bridge.”
