Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori has signed a new five-and-a-half-year deal at Stamford Bridge. Tomori is one of the players to have earned the trust of Frank Lampard this season, having shone for the Chelsea boss when on loan at Derby County last season along with Chelsea teammate Mason Mount.
The 21-year-old has been a regular in Frank Lampard’s starting line-up this season, beginning 11 of their 16 Premier League games.
His impressive performances for Chelsea have also seen him called into the England squad, and he made his international debut in November’s 4-0 win over Kosovo.
The former Derby and Hull City loanee said he was grateful to Chelsea for supporting him over the years and that he was excited to see what the future held for him at the club.
‘It’s obviously a very proud moment for myself and my family,‘ he told Chelsea’s website. ‘I‘ve been at the club since I was seven years old so I don’t really know much else other than Chelsea.
‘The club has been so good to me, looking after and developing me during that time into the player and the person I am today. It’s a dream come true to sign a new five-year contract. I’m really happy the club has shown this faith in me and I’m just excited to carry on.’
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are very happy to see another fantastic young player come through from our Academy into the senior team.
“Fikayo has been with us since he was seven years old and has contributed to many Chelsea successes at youth level.
Lampard has placed his trust in youth since taking over from Maurizio Sarri and has handed Tomori significant game time along with other youngsters such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Blues had made a good start to the season and are currently fourth in the Premier League and are into the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
