Timo Werner takes part in his first training session at Cobham

New Blues signing Timo Werner was seen in his first training session at the club’s Cobham facility. The 24-year old striker signed for Chelsea FC last month in a transfer worth £47.5m from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

The German international took part in some on the ball sessions donning Chelsea FC’s training attire. The new Stamford Bridge arrival took to his Instagram page and uploaded an image of his first day at the Cobham facility.

Werner’s move to Stamford Bridge had been confirmed by both clubs prior to the conclusion of the 2019-20 Bundesliga season. The German international played out Leipzig’s remaining league fixtures, ending the domestic campaign with 28 goals and eight assists. Werner’s goalscoring tally in the recently concluded season was just behind Robert Lewandowski’s count of 34 goals for Bayern Munich.

The 24-year old, however, opted not to be in contention for RB Leipzig’s squad for the Champions League. The German side are due to face Atletico Madrid in a quarter-final clash on 14th August. Werner’s contract as a Chelsea FC player was put into force from 1st July.

As a result, the German striker made the decision of linking up with his new teammates in London rather plan seeing out the European campaign with his former side. RB Leipzig were more than happy to tend to their now-former star’s demands.

Werner’s arrival at London, however, had been delayed by a number of weeks. The reason for the delay turned out to be a period of time being given to the German to relax and rejuvenate ahead of next season’s start.

Following the exit of  Pedro being confirmed by Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard, the number 11 jersey at the club has become vacant. Werner is widely tipped to be handed that jersey number considering that it is the German’s preferred choice on the back of the shirt.

The 24-year old landed in London on Sunday morning and was in attendance for Chelsea FC’s final league game of the season against Wolves. The Blues clinched an all-important 2-0 victory over Wolves, ensuring their spot in next season’s Champions League.
