Timo Werner doesn’t regret his move to Chelsea over Liverpool

Chelsea’s new summer recruitment, Timo Werner has explained why he decided to join Chelsea rejecting Liverpool’s offer.

Lampard and co. brought the striker in a £47.5 million deal from the Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig. He was a prime target of several European clubs but Lampard managed to convince him with his words. Liverpool was leading the race but failed to sign Werner.

After playing brilliantly in his debut match for Chelsea, the striker has come out to talk about his decision. The Former RB Leipzig striker says that in order to get more playing time for development, he chose the Blues over the Reds.

In his season with RB Leipzig, he netted 95 times in just 159 appearances and Lampard didn’t have any second thoughts before prioritizing him to sign. Werner too is confident that he won’t regret his move to Chelsea after snubbing the Reds.

He talked about his objective-that is to reach the level of the Liverpool trio(Salah-Mane-Firmino).

Asked why he turned down the chance to join the Reds, the 24-year-old told Bild: “I think it says enough that Jurgen Klopp is currently one of the most successful coaches in the world. Of course, if he wants you for his team, you will start pondering.

“In the past few months, I have also thought about a few other interested clubs. In the end, I decided to go to Chelsea with full conviction because I think it’s the best move for me. I can say I haven’t regretted it so far and I certainly won’t in the future.”

Amongst the new faces, Werner has impressed in his new club with good performances. The season ahead will say if he will be regretting his decision or not.
