Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitted his side would need to be at their brilliant best to overcome the deficit and walk away winners from the Santiago Bernebeu on Tuesday night.
The west Londoners were handed a 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in the first leg contest of the Champions League quarter-final last week at Stamford Bridge with Tuchel’s men unable to contain the visiting La Liga giants.
Staring at the prospect of an exit from the prestigious competition, Tuchel backed his players in the pre-match presser to perform at the highest level should they wish to secure a semi-final berth.
“It is one of the biggest challenges to perform away at the Bernabeu.
“It is even more difficult if you have to earn a certain result, if you need to win with a minimum of two goals or better or maybe a three-goal difference. That makes it almost impossible and very, very difficult, but still it is worth trying.
“We need nothing else than a fantastic script that we want to be able to overcome this.”
