Chelsea boss Tuchel sounded out injury fears for defensive duo Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah ahead of the EFL Cup tie on Wednesday against Brentford.
Troubles on the injury front have failed to subside for Tuchel in recent weeks with a COVID-19 crisis in the ranks sidelining the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Moreover, the Blues were forced to play Wolves over the weekend with only four outfield players on the bench and the returning N’Golo Kante rushed into on-field action for the entire 90 minutes in the nil-nil affair.
With the French midfield man ruled out for the last-eight meeting in the Carabao Cup away at Brentford, Tuchel admitted in his pre-match remarks that central defenders Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah were both major doubts for the upcoming outing.
Christensen had been absent from the matchday squad last time around while the 22-year-old Chalobah, Chelsea’s breakout star this campaign, had to be substituted midway through the game. Jorginho, meanwhile, will be set for a return following a negative test for COVID-19.
‘Jorginho had a negative test, it was a wrong positive, so he is back training.
‘Andreas is very doubtful with injury and the same for Trevoh Chalobah.
‘From the match, we have Chalobah a big doubt. N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic we took a huge risk with, and we now are paying for this. Two matches in one week for them is simply impossible.’
