Thomas Tuchel sounded out confirmation that his star playmaker Mason Mount will miss Tuesday’s game against Malmo in the Champions League.
Mount had been withdrawn from the matchday squad last Saturday in the 3-0 win over Newcastle United because of an illness and there had been speculation that he will be in line to be sidelined for the Malmo clash.
The England international had been in flying form for the Blues before his extended absence with Mount netting a hat-trick in the 7-0 rout of the Premier League’s new boys Norwich City.
Mount joins the likes of Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante who all have been sidelined for the Champions League outing away from home turf with the latter staying put in the English capital to work on his recovery.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s group stage tie in Sweden, Tuchel ruled out Mount for the midweek game but added that the Englishman had not been diagnosed with COVID-19.
“Mason does not really feel better.”
“To stop any speculation, it’s not Covid, he’s negative for Covid. He’s just ill and he does not feel good enough to take part in training and of course take part in the trip to Malmo.”
