Thomas Tuchel admitted worry over the futures of midfield duo N’Golo Kante and Jorginho who are out of contract at Stamford Bridge come the summer of 2023.
The Chelsea boss has dealt with contract standoffs involving defensive trio Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta since the turn of this year despite the latter coming close to penning an extension.
When pressed upon the long-term futures of his midfield pairing Kante and Jorginho, according to a report from the club’s official website, Tuchel insisted he wanted to avoid a repeat of the situation to that of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
‘Nobody wants that with players, especially nowadays with big and important players. As a coach it is important that we solve this in the summer, so that it is clear where the journey is.
‘We would have the same talks as we have had Toni and Andreas. We will talk about it through the winter and January. It would be nice to avoid this but, in the moment, it is difficult to handle anything. But yes, of course, this should be the target for all of us.’
Jorginho’s future in the English capital beyond this coming summer is understood to be hanging in the balance with some of Europe’s biggest clubs keeping close tabs on his contract standoff.
Juventus have been tipped as the early frontrunners for the Italy international’s signature with his former side Napoli also in the reckoning to touch base with the midfielder.
