Thiago Silva will arrive in London today for his medical ahead of signing for Chelsea FC on a two-year deal, according to reports. The Brazilian international joins the Blues’ after turning down offers from a number of other clubs across Europe, including Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Silva would be Frank Lampard’s second defensive signing in this summer’s transfer window after the Chelsea FC manager’s resolve to bring in additional reinforcements for his side’s backline after the club’s shambolic defensive showings last season.
The 35-year old reportedly snubbed a one-year contract extension offered by his now former side Paris Saint-Germain. Silva played at the Ligue 1 giants for a span of eight years, with last week’s UEFA Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich being the center-back’s last outing for the French club.
In what is near confirmation of Silva’s impending move to Stamford Bridge, the veteran defender posted a goodbye message to PSG fans on his Instagram page. The player expressed his gratitude towards the supporters of the Ligue 1 side who had backed him for up to eight years. Moreover, the 35-year old termed his time in Paris to be full of ‘unforgettable moments’, a feeling he admitted was shared throughout his family.
