Recent reports from France suggest that Chelsea FC have been offered the opportunity to sign veteran center-back Thiago Silva this summer. The 35-year old’s current deal with Champions League finalists Paris Saint-German is set to expire at the end of the French clubs’ ongoing European campaign.
Despite Silva, the captain of the Ligue 1 giants PSG, turning 36 next month, the Brazilian does not have any intentions of calling time on his esteemed career. He is rumored to eager on securing a move to England to play in the Premier League, something that he has not done so far.
The Blues are understood to be on the hunt for a quality option at center-back in this summer’s transfer window. Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard remains keen on bolstering his side’s defensive core ahead of the upcoming 2020-21 season for the west London outfit.
However, the Blues are unlikely to be fazed by speculation surrounding Silva’s desire to sign for a major English side. Lampard will be looking towards bringing in a younger center-back to lay the foundations of Chelsea FC’s backline for a number of years to come.
With Silva nearing the age of 36, the PSG defender is highly likely to play atmost two seasons as a first-team player. Chelsea FC would not be desirous of such a situation, as the Stamford Bridge is in a dire need of defensive reinforcements that star for the Blues in the coming seasons.
