Thiago Silva is nearing completion of his move to Chelsea FC ahead of the upcoming season, according to recent reports. The veteran centre-back had been expected to sign for the Blues following the expiry of his contract with UEFA Champions League runners-up Paris Saint Germain.
The soon-to-be-former PSG skipper will reportedly join Chelsea FC in the coming days and is poised to agree upon a two-year deal with the west London club. Silva’s signing will be a free transfer for Frank Lampard’s side, with the 35-year old defender set to end his eight-year stay at the Ligue 1 champions.
It is rumored that the centre-back has already agreed upon personal terms with the Blues ahead of finalizing a move to the club. The Brazilian international rejected an offer from Fiorentina to decline an opportunity to return to the Serie A, where he had starred for AC Milan previously.
Despite turning 36 next month, Silva is confident that he can compete at the highest level for three or four more years. The centre-back was an influential performer for PSG in the French club’s journey towards reaching their very first Champions League final.
Signing the ex-Milan defender would be a massive boost to the defensive core of Frank Lampard’s side that struggled so often in that department last season. Besides being a fantastic ball-playing centre-back, Silva is known to be a very vocal leader on the pitch as well.
