Chelsea wasted no time when they saw Thiago Silva keen to leave PSG. The Blues signed him immediately on a free transfer from last season’s UCL runners up, PSG.
The veteran Brazilian defender has signed a one-year contract with the Blues and has the option to extend it for the second season.
Chelsea Boss, Lampard speaks highly of the 36-year-old defender and has expectations from him.
“We have a relatively young squad last year. There were games afterward when I was probably asking for more voice and some more leadership in different ways.
He brings that naturally straight away. Also on the pitch he can help, talk and be the player that he is which means affecting others. On those levels, I hope he brings that,” said Lampard regarding the transfer.
But according to the reports, PSG’s sporting director made a late attempt to make him stay in the France capital. He was also wanted by the PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel for another year after his impressive display in the UCL.
“He [Thiago Silva] was no longer hoping for a new contract as Leonardo(sporting director) told him two months ago that he did not want to extend,” Silva’s agent, Tonietto told the media.
PSG’s plea shows how crucial he is despite the age. He, at 36 improving like a fine wine and playing back to back 90 minutes of UCL football.
Surely the best option to recruit to improve this shaky defense of Chelsea.
