Recent speculation has suggested that Chelsea FC are eager on completing a deal from Southampton FC goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
The English shot-stopper was sent out on a season-long loan to Scottish side Celtic FC last summer and would return back to Southampton FC shortly. However, Forster is not a part of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s future plans at the Premier League side and could be sold in a permanent deal in the summer.
Alongside the Blues, even Arsenal FC have declared their interest in signing the 32-year old Forster who can serve as a handy backup to the side’s first-choice goalkeepers.
Forster has rediscovered his previous form which had made him Southampton FC’s first-choice goalkeeper nearly three seasons ago while on loan at Celtic FC.
The goalkeeper, who has been capped six times by the English national team, has performed exceptionally well on loan for the Hoops. Forster has featured in 28 appearances for the Scottish side and was a key part of their squad which has gone on to secure their ninth league title in a row.
The Blues manager Frank Lampard has been reported to be doubtful about starting the 2020-21 campaign with Kepa Arrizabalaga still the first-choice goalkeeper for Chelsea FC.
On many occasions, Kepa has been replaced with veteran Argentine Willy Cabellero in goal for the Blues. Moreover, recent reports state that Lampard has given the reaming 2019-20 Premier League season as an ultimatum to Arrizabalaga to show his worth towards the Blues side or risk getting replaced in the summer by a new signing.
Forster certainly does not seem to have a future in a Southampton FC shirt. The goalkeeper was considered to be third in the pecking order for the Saints, behind Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn and it does not seem as if anything is going to change about that situation even when Forster returns from his loan spell at Celtic FC. With two years remaining on his Southampton FC contract, Forster could be on his way to another Premier League side in the summer.
