Chelsea FC is desperately trying to strengthen the left-back role in their team, with the club now believed to be interested in signing the highly-rated Alex Telles, who currently plays for FC Porto. Reports now suggest that the Blues have overtaken Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Telles, who has been on the radar of several top European clubs for the past year.
However, earlier information suggested that the Ligue 1 champions PSG had managed to confirm a deal for the player, who had been wanting to leave FC Porto at the end of the current season.
The Blues manager Frank Lampard is keen on signing a reliable left-back for his team, having given both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri adequate chances to impress during the past couple of seasons. However, with both player’s inconsistent performances, Lampard has no choice but to dwell in the transfer market and sign a new player for the club.
The Premier League club has been linked with Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico as well as English international Ben Chilwell in recent weeks, with Tagliafico emerging as a possible signing for the Blues in the summer.
PSG, too are on the hunt for a new left-back, with Frenchman Layvin Kurzawa set to leave at the end of his contract, which expires this season. The French club was assumed to wrap up a deal for Telles in the region of €25million.
However, Chelsea FC have established a significant lead over the Ligue 1 champions in the race to sign the Brazilian left-back, with the Premier League club, believed to have started negotiations with the player’s representatives.
Telles has changed his agent recently, with the player now being represented by Pini Zahivi, the man responsible for helping current Chelsea FC owner Roman Abrahmovich to purchase the club back in 2003. Moreover, FC Porto fears to lose their player for nothing when his contract expires next season, and a host of clubs will be clamoring for his signature on a free transfer.
