Chelsea FC is believed to be in pole position to sign highly-rated Juventus attacker Federico Bernardeschi. According to several reports, The Blues are known to be ahead of fellow Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Bernardeschi, who has had limited first-team opportunities while at the Italian club. The winger moved to Juventus from fellow Serie A side Fiorentina in 2017 and was touted as a huge prospect ahead of his signing by then Juventus manager Max Allegri.
However, the player was unable to cement his position in the starting lineup under both Allegri as well as the new Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri. With the player struggling for game time under Sarri, the Italian is eyeing a move to the Premier League, with a host of English clubs interested in securing his transfer. The player has identified Chelsea as an ideal destination among the Premier League teams vying for his signature.
The Blues manager Frank Lampard is keen on bolstering his attacking options ahead of next season and is wanting to ease the burden on young English striker Tammy Abraham. The Premier League club has been linked with Philippe Coutinho and Kai Havertz in recent months. However, Bernardeschi poses himself as a cheaper option for Lampard’s ideal attacking signing this summer. The player is keen to nail down a starting role in a major European team, with the objective of not missing out on Italy’s national squad for next year’s UEFA Euro championship. Bernardeschi has so far made 24 appearances for his country.
Chelsea FC seems to be a strong suitor for Bernardeschi’s signature due to the player’s parent club Juventus interested signing two of the Premier League clubs’ players, namely Jorginho and Emerson. Juventus manager Sarri wants to sign both players, whom he had managed previously at Chelsea FC, with Jorginho being high on the Italian coach’s wish list for this summer’s transfer window. And it seems that Bernardeschi may be used as a makeweight in a possible deal for Jorginho by Juventus.
