Tammy Abraham’s contract negotiations with Chelsea FC hit a roadblock

Tammy Abraham has reportedly halted his contract talks with Chelsea FC amid the uncertainty of his future at the club. The English international has fallen out of favour with Blues coach Frank Lampard in recent weeks. However, Abraham has enjoyed a fruitful 2019-20 campaign with 14 league goals to his name.

The Blues’ academy graduate had to spend a series of loan spells away from Stamford Bridge prior to his season. Loan stints at Bristol City, Swansea City, and Aston Villa proved to be productive for Abraham’s overall development as a clinical striker. Upon the appointment of Lampard as the Chelsea FC boss, Abraham was seen as a first-team player for the Blues.

The 22-year old enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2019-20 Premier League season and was fantastic in front of goal for his side. Moreover, Abraham linked up well with his teammates and was an influential player on the pitch for the Blues.

However, since the turn of the year, things have not been the same for the young English forward. A series of injury niggles prevented Abraham from getting more playing minutes under his belt for Chelsea FC. Moreover, the 22-year old suffered a serious dip in form which was evident by his failure to find the back of the net on numerous occasions.

Abraham’s torrid run of form was subject to Olivier Giroud being reinstated as Lampard’s first-choice number nine. The Frenchman was spectacular for the Blues post the lockdown period with his goalscoring prowess. The Chelsea FC attacking line was considerably strengthened with Giroud and Christian Pulisic maintaining a great run of form for their side.

However, even though Abraham got back among the goals with his strike against Crystal Palace, the English international has looked out of sorts in recent times. The 22-year old has lacked the killer instinct that was present in him in the first half of the season.

Abraham’s current deal with the Blues was extended by one year recently. But the extension came as a result of the striker racking up a specific number of appearances and goals for the Blues. Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that he is hopeful of Abraham penning a new long-term deal with the West London based club.

With the arrival of new signing Timo Werner, Abraham’s stay at Stamford Bridge is subject to even more uncertainty. The 22-year old would certainly not be keen on being a third-choice striking option for Lampard’s side next season.
