Played-turned-pundit Danny Mills has stated that Tammy Abraham’s Chelsea FC future is under no threat despite Timo Werner’s arrival. The latter signed for the Blues from RB Leipzig, having scored 34 goals in 45 games for the German outfit last season.
The 24-year old Werner is tipped to become the first-choice striker for Frank Lampard’s side from next season onwards. Very few doubt that the German international’s ability in front of goal is surpassed by the current attacking options at Lampard’s disposal. He brings with himself a glowing reputation enhanced by his attacking exploits in the Bundesliga.
However, Mills feels that Abraham could be fielded alongside the new Blues signing on the pitch next season. According to the ex-Leeds United player, Werner is equally comfortable on being played as a winger. This could mean a spot up front for either Abraham or Giroud in the club’s starting XI.
“Werner can play wide, off the right hand side.
“Willian’s leaving so Werner can go down the right, Pulisic, when he’s back fit, on the left and Abraham down the middle or Giroud.
There had been a great deal of speculation lately regarding the 22-year old Abraham’s future in the Chelsea FC shirt. The striker has not been able to agree upon extended terms with the West London based outfit, according to reports.
Moreover, with the signing of Werner this summer, there had been rumours of Abraham being offloaded by Lampard. But is believed that the Chelsea FC boss still holds the striker, who was the club’s leading goalscorer last season with 16, in high regard.
