Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham left Stamford Bridge to join Roma at the beginning of last season, but he isn’t ruling out a comeback in the future.
The 25-year-old was forced to leave Stamford Bridge in pursuit of consistent first-team play, and his transfer to Rome has been successful. Last season, Abraham helped the Italian team win the UEFA Europa Conference League by scoring 27 goals in all competitions.
There have been rumours of a potential comeback in the near future ever since his departure from the London club. The England international clearly has unfinished business at Chelsea, and he may want to go back and show the blues what he is capable of.
The striker has now increased speculation about his future by speaking about a potential return to Chelsea. As stated by Football London, Abraham said:
“I’m happy with Roma, and I’m focused on my job here. The team is good. The manager is good. The city, the fans, I’m happy. Only God knows the future.”
Abraham told the media that while he is content at Roma, he does not yet know what the future holds and that any potential transfer cannot be completely ruled out.
It goes without saying that Chelsea now needs a young, skilled striker like Abraham, so bringing him back to Stamford Bridge would be a smart move.
Romelu Lukaku departed the team at the beginning of the season on a loan agreement, so it’s reasonable to believe that the Belgian’s long-term future is elsewhere than with Chelsea. The latest summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hasn’t been at his best thus far, and he isn’t getting any younger.
It will be intriguing to see whether the Blues can persuade Abraham to return because he might be the best choice to lead the line at Stamford Bridge.
