Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are rumoured to be weighing up a move for Chelsea target Enzo Fernandez whose future at Benfica beyond this summer remains uncertain.
Chelsea were keen to land the highly-rated Argentine’s signature in the ongoing January transfer window but Benfica’s demands of his entire €120 million release clause being paid in full put Graham Potter’s side off.
According to a report from Record, it is claimed that Real Madrid and Barcelona have emerged as serious contenders for Fernandez’s signature with the La Liga heavyweights looking to approach Benfica for their in-demand maestro.
The 22-year-old Fernandez is one of the most coveted names in world football with his stock on the rise following an impressive campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with the champions Argentina which earned him the Best Young Player award.
Potter had identified the Benfica talent as a top name on his mid-season wishlist with the Chelsea boss preparing for life at the Bridge without N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, both of whom are out of contract come the end of the season.
