Sevilla vs Chelsea – Chelsea’s Predicted Lineup | UCL 20-21

In the Champions League next up for Chelsea is a trip to the heart of Spain as Sevilla host the Blues of Chelsea. Lampard’s men have been in great form but were stopped from scoring against Mourinho’s Tottenham, who are also title challengers this season in the Premier League. Chelsea have already qualified for the Round of 16, thus Lampard might be thinking of resting his star players in Spain.

The coming back to fitness of Christian Pulisic will give Lampard more options on systems to try and also from the bench. The American is almost a surety to start tomorrow after he looked sharp against Tottenham. Olivier Giroud might finally get a rare start for Chelsea this season as he has been amongst the goals in the Champions League.

Let us now haver a look at how Frank Lampard might set his Chelsea side up against Sevilla in the Champions League.

THE 4-3-3

Thiago Silva has played a lot of football for Chelsea lately and Lampard would like to give the veteran a much-needed break, which be good for Silva’s fitness. Lampard might as well give the likes of Werner and Tammy Abraham a rest as well as play Pulisic and Giroud. The Frenchman has scored some very important goals this season despite having very less game-time for Chelsea.

Havertz might also feature on the right wing, but Lampard might also opt for Ziyech, as he hasn’t performed very well lately and will gain some confidence. The midfield trio of Mount, Kovacic and Kante have done fantastically at Chelsea and one of them might be rested, paving way for Jorginho in the starting XI. The club captain, Cesar Azpilicueta might also get a rare start this season, as Reece James has made the right-back spot completely his own in the last few months.

Lampard has a huge squad to choose from and he is spoilt of choice as well as the squad has a couple of good players at least at every position.

THE 4-2-3-1

This side in the 4-2-3-1 system is by far the strongest Chelsea side on paper available at Lampard’s disposal this season. The double pivot of Kovacic and Kante has done wonders for Chelsea and they have been great this season so far as well. Both the midfielders will not just allow the front-four to express their game but will also give James and Chilwell the license to bomb forward.

The front-four of Werner, Pulisic, Havertz and Ziyech is arguably the best on paper in the world currently and will cause havoc on the pitch. All the above-mentioned players are very talented and versatile which will allow them to chop and change things constantly, which will be a headache for the opposition. If they all feature in the same lineup, it will be very tough for the opposition to come away with all three points.

THE 3-4-3

The 3-4-3 is another option for Lampard against Sevilla but it is unlikely for him to set his Chelsea side up with this formation and system. The Spanish team play with a possession-based type of football and thus it will be foolish to use a 3-4-3 in such a game.
