Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui has admitted that centre-back Jules Kounde is closing in on his long-awaited move to Chelsea this summer.
Lopetegui, as quoted by a report from football.london, has confirmed that Kounde’s exit from the Sevilla camp is imminent with the Frenchman not training with the rest of his teammates after arriving in training.
Chelsea have been credited with a strong interest in moving in for the 23-year-old Kounde with Thomas Tuchel’s hunt to bolster his depleted defensive roster at Stamford Bridge underway since the summer transfer window commenced.
Despite rumours doing the rounds that Barcelona are still in the running for the Sevilla star, Chelsea are confident of beating the cash-strapped Catalan giants to the signing with Tuchel all set to land his second defender of the window after Kalidou Koulibaly’s arrival.
Tuchel has had to deal with the twin departures of key first-team defensive duo Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen with the Blues head coach likely to also lose out on his skipper Cesar Azpilicueta with Barcelona eyeing up his signature.
