Brazilian pillar David Luiz has endured a shaky time in Chelsea from his arrival in 2014. The defender was frozen out by Conte for most of his coaching tenure but has been brought to life by Sarri.
The Blues coach has made him play all the seven games and the Brazilian looks stronger than ever, playing for Sarri. Seeing his performance, Chelsea are ready to sign a new contract with the 31-year-old.
Luiz has already accepted that he would have not stayed if Conte was still the coach. With Sarri came a new ray of light for the centre-back.
Luiz has already suggested he will be happy to continue his relationship with Sarri and sign a new deal this January. He said:
‘In the first week I spoke with him. I said to him that “I am going to work hard to show you I want to play in your team, with your philosophy”,’
‘I had two offers from different clubs but I told Chelsea I wanted to stay. Would I have gone if Conte stayed? For sure.’
‘But they changed for Sarri and I have tried to convince Sarri I want to stay at Chelsea. I am playing now and enjoying it. I didn’t play the last six months under Conte but I wanted to perform. ‘
“Sarri is human, he wants us to take pleasure in playing football. He said every day we have to enjoy it.”
The Boss has already heaped a lot of good things about Luiz and has admitted that Luiz is a ‘better’ player than he first thought.
‘When I arrived here, immediately I had the feeling he’s a very good player for my way of football because he’s a centre-back who is very technical,’ he said.
Such is the camaraderie between the two that none would want any of the one to leave. Of course, it means nothing but Luiz signing a new contract with Chelsea and extending his Blue run.
