Romelu Lukaku has revealed he wants to return to Inter Milan in the future just months into leaving the Italians to sign for Chelsea.
The Belgium international forward made the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window in what was Thomas Tuchel’s marquee purchase ahead of the 2021-22 campaign’s start.
Lukaku has endured a big of mixed fortunes since his return to England’s top flight this summer which left the Inter Milan fanbase furious as the club’s ultras defaced the striker’s mural following his exit.
Run-in with injuries and testing positive for COVID-19 have curtailed the player’s game time for Chelsea despite Tuchel insisting he retains faith in his summer signing’s ability in front of the goal.
In an interview with Sky Sports Italia, Lukaku has admitted that re-signing for the San Siro giants remains on the cards for him with the 28-year-old voicing the desire to return to Inter while still in the prime of his career.
“I think everything that happened last summer was not supposed to happen like this… how I left Inter, the way I left the club, how I communicated with Inter fans – this bothers me because it was not the right time.
“Now it’s the right time to share my feelings. I have always said that I have Inter in my heart: I know I will return to Inter, I really hope so.
“I am in love with Italy, this is the right moment to talk and let people know what really happened.
“I really hope from bottom of my heart to return to Inter not at the end of my career, but when I’m still at top level to win more together”.
“I want apologize to the Inter fan, the timing of my words was wrong: what you did for me will remain forever.”
