Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on Raphael Varane’s contract situation with the French defender set to make a decision over his Real Madrid future in the coming weeks.
Varane last played in France’s heartbreaking defeat to Switzerland in the Last-16 of the UEFA Euroepan Championships and following his side’s exit, the Madrid man will be taking a couple weeks off to ponder over his options at hand.
The Blues have been joined by the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the race for the World Cup-winning central defender who has just a year left on his current deal at the Santiago Bernebeu.
Reports from French news outlet L’Equipe claim that Varane is line to have a sit down with Real Madrid’s newly appointed boss Carlo Ancelotti who has taken over from Zinedine Zidane ahead of the start of the 2021-22 campaign.
Varane’s meeting with Ancelotti is poised to be a major source of concern for Chelsea and Manchester United who have been in the fray for a while now with their desires to land the defender’s signature well-documented.
