The disappointment of Mauricio Pochettino, was evident after Chelsea were unable to match against the Burnley side that played with only ten men at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Contrary to the over-sized advantage of Chelsea, which was getting a ten-man Burnley side on backfoot for a lengthy period of time after Lorenz Assignon’s red card, they found themselves getting tackled not once but twice by the Clarets. Cole Palmer with his 17th and 18th goals of 2023/24 season under Pochettino couldn’t change the course of events and it only turned out to be underpinning.
Kompany, Burnley’s manager was also sent off, the Clarets still managed to reach the equalizer in a match by scoring in the 81st minute, mere moments after Palmer’s goal that saw Chelsea lead the game 2-1. This left the Blues frustrated and they were not able to move higher from their 11th position on the Premier League table.

What did Pochettino had to say post the unfortunate draw against Burnley?
Chelsea may have been really close to beating their opponent as they had 33 shots plus they enjoyed 69% of the possession time, but they didn’t use that efficiently enough, which Pochettino can’t really accept.
He added:
“After today, we didn’t show the capacity, the energy, the anger. Not the minimum to compete in the Premier League. In the defensive phase we concede too much.
“That is why I am so upset and disappointed. It’s more here [in your heart] and here [in your head] than in your legs to be strong like a group, to be strong like a team. That is sometimes the circumstance for different reasons we are so slow evolving in this area.
“That is the key today. It’s not to find excuses. The team played well, yes, we have energy, yes, we go forward, yes, but afterwards when we don’t have the ball we don’t have the same energy.
“Sorry, but I am not with the performance when we don’t have the ball. If we are able to create chances in the way we did and have the capacity to move and find all the different ways to penetrate a team that play with a block very deep.
“They are a very physical team, we need to be strong also and have the capacity to recover the ball too much.”
Pochettino’s comments are another confirmation that Chelsea is indeed focused on the signing of a poacher in the summer transfer window. The absence of Nkunku from the pitch due to his consistent injuries and Jackson’s lack of consistency have been the main reasons why Chelsea have wasted most of the chances.
