Patrice Evra laments Romelu Lukaku’s decision to leave Inter for Chelsea

Manchester United great Patrice Evra has said that Romelu Lukaku’s decision to leave Inter for Chelsea last summer was a wrong decision.

Lukaku’s struggles in front of the goal following his return to west London have been well documented as of late with the Belgium international unable to win over the Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel and the club’s fanbase.

He had been one of the top players in his position in the Serie A with Inter whom he led to their first top flight title in 10 years but Lukaku has failed to replicate that success in the Chelsea shirt under Tuchel’s charge.

With speculation doing the rounds that the 28-year-old could be on his way out of the Bridge this coming summer as Chelsea look to cut their losses on the player, Patrice Evra has claimed that the striker should have stayed put at San Siro.

In an interview with Amazon Sport ( via The Daily Express), Evra is quoted saying that Lukaku made the wrong decision by staging a return to Premier League life with the Blues.

“People who criticise him have a short memory. Because when he arrived in London he scored and did well; then he got injured and said he missed Inter.

“In the end, he created a bit of a mess with the (Chelsea) fans. He wanted to return to Chelsea at all costs, he should have stayed at Inter after such a high-level season. He made that choice there which for me is wrong.”
